Life Of Pi
Life of Pi by Yann Martel is an imaginative adventure novel about survival, faith, fear, and the power of storytelling.
The story follows Piscine “Pi” Patel, a young boy from India whose family owns a zoo. When they decide to move to Canada, they travel across the Pacific aboard a cargo ship carrying several of their animals. After the ship sinks in a violent storm, Pi finds himself stranded on a lifeboat in the middle of the ocean.
His most dangerous companion is Richard Parker, a Bengal tiger. As Pi struggles to survive hunger, thirst, storms, isolation, and the constant threat posed by the tiger, he must use intelligence, discipline, and courage to keep both himself and Richard Parker alive.
Beyond being a dramatic survival story, Life of Pi explores religion, belief, truth, imagination, and the ways people create meaning from extraordinary experiences. The novel asks readers to consider whether truth is always simply factual—or whether the stories we choose to believe can also reveal something deeply human.
It is adventurous, philosophical, emotional, and often surprising, combining the excitement of a sea voyage with a thoughtful exploration of faith and storytelling.
